Red Dragon (magazine)

''Red Dragon'' was a magazine founded by Charles Wilkins in 1882, as a monthly periodical. It was an English language periodical, which was mostly aimed at the people of South Wales. It published articles on the history of Wales (emphasising the recent history of the country), biographies, poetry and serial novels. It became a historical periodical during its last two years, with a notes and questions section which filled the majority of the periodical. Yet ''The Red Dragon'' was the first English-language periodical which attempted to create a cultured Welsh audience.〔See Meic Stephens (ed.)italic The New Companion to the Literature of Wales, Cardiff UK, University of Wales Press, 1998, p. 785.〕
Charles Wilkins was the first editor, between February 1882 and June 1885, James Harris took over in July 1885 until June 1887 when the last number was published. It was published in Cardiff in the various offices of a Daniel Owen for the five years of its publication.
